Ten years ago, the Daily Mail
launched a trail-blazing campaign to end the scourge of plastic bags clogging
the oceans. Today, there has been a staggering 85 per cent reduction in the
number of bags used in Britain, plus the manufacture of microbeads is banned,
supermarkets are vowing to eliminate single-use packaging and plastic bottle
cash-back schemes are being considered across the UK.
This year, the Mail’s stepping up
its war on plastic with The Great Plastic Pick Up. We’ve joined forces with
Keep Britain Tidy to encourage communities, schools, families and individuals
to come together from May 11 to 13 to clear rubbish from our streets, beaches
and beauty spots. Wherever you live, you can make a difference by sparing just
a few hours to collect plastic, cans and general litter and dispose of it
safely. Sign up today – there’s still time!
After your Pick Up, share a picture of your day and you could also be in with a chance of winning amazing prizes. Three lucky groups will be rewarded with a professional community make-over, worth £10,000, while a participating school will win an all-expenses-paid trip to a UK Sea Life Centre.
HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR PICTURES
share your photos with us in three easy ways. We will be looking for photos
which capture the importance and spirit of our campaign. We will review them
all and reveal our winners early next week. Share your picture/s with a
brief description of your event and its success including participants, your
location and reasons for taking part, before midnight on Monday, May 14.
